AFRO WIA 2025

This conference was informed by the growing need to create a dedicated platform that celebrates, connects, and empowers African women in animation. Afro WIA Fest 2025 was designed to showcase talent, foster mentorship, encourage collaboration and drive conversations around inclusion, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the animation industry. It brought together professionals, emerging artists, and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to inspire action and drive change.

Session 1

“Breaking Barriers: Women Leading the Animation Industry”

This session explored the journeys of women leading in animation, emphasizing the importance of staying updated with industry trends, continuous learning, and starting small while consistently showcasing your work.  Insights were shared by Damilola Solesi, Comfort Arthur, and Omoyefe Majoroh, with moderation by Ukpeme Uwakwe of Basement Animation Studio.

Session 2

“Animation for Social Change: Telling Stories That Matter”

The session examined how animation can influence narratives and create social impact, emphasizing authentic storytelling, relatable African content for children, and the need for stronger funding and distribution across the continent. Speakers included Vanessa Sinden, Omotunde Akiode, and Mounia Aram, moderated by Zainab Balami.

Session 3

“Accelerate Action,”

The session centered on growth and productivity, encouraging women to embrace each stage of life, prioritize rest, and build strong systems that support scaling. Afro Women in Animation Fest 2025 also provided networking opportunities with leading animation academies, showcased performances and film screenings, and celebrated emerging female talent.
